Grocery Delivery Services on the Rise – Next Big Thing?
Personal grocery shopping is on the rise in America. Whether it’s that people just do not have the time to go shopping for themselves, or they just don’t know what they should be purchasing, there is a growing market for the service. There are a few untapped marketplaces for personal shoppers, from the vacation rental/condo business and the healthy/organic industry. On top of vacation rentals and organic food, there is now a newer form of grocery delivery, which is online ordering to be delivered to your doorstep. These are three very different instances in which there is a need, but they are alike in the sense that people will be willing to pay a lot of money for all three of the services.
In the vacation rental/condo business the need is due to the fact that when people come to vacation, the last thing that they want to spend their time on is shopping for food and beverages. This is where people will pay big money, especially since they are already in the spending mood, to have the food they requested delivered to their doorstep without lifting a finger. In the Destin area alone, there have been many small businesses capitalizing on this very opportunity, and once the word inevitably gets out, they become very successful amongst vacationers and long-term renters alike.
This leads to another aspect of personal grocery shopping, where people are also willing to shell out a large sum of money to get their products delivered to their doorstep, and that is in the natural/organic foods market. Many people find it difficult or even near impossible to find fresh and healthy organic food, especially in bigger metropolitan areas, and over the past decade many people have been gravitating towards an organic preference. This need has sparked an increase in the food delivery business because people no longer have to hunt down the food themselves anymore and they can pay someone good money to find it for them. Since organic fruits and vegetables are already expensive when compared to other non-organic foods, customers are already conditioned to pay a premium for the product, so paying a little extra for someone to purchase it for them isn’t usually much of an issue.
The newest method of food delivery is in the form of robots that deliver the products to your doorstep. Amazon has taken advantage of this idea with their new Amazon Fresh service. You can now purchase any foods, fresh or frozen, and they will be delivered to your doorstep very quickly. According to the Amazon site, the service is only available in certain locations throughout the US, but they plan on expanding quickly so that people from all over can experience the ease of online shopping for grocery products. This is a service that even 5 years ago would appear to be an impossible mission, but as technology and the demand increase, anything can be done in business.
So, to bring things to a close, personal grocery shoppers and grocery delivery will see a rise in the next decade. The question is, will this be here to stay, or is it just another trend that will come and go? It’s hard to determine what is a trend and what will stick these days, since the average consumers attention span seems to be getting shorter and shorter and people are also getting more and more lazy as well. There is no doubt the idea is one that has been well thought out, but it really relies on the wealthier or health-conscious people that prefer to have their products at their doorstep than to go get them by themselves.
